Covenant Health, in partnership with Alberta Health Services and the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry, invites applications for an Adult Psychiatrist within the Department of Addictions & Mental Health at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

The successful candidate will have an MD and must be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta. Certification in Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) in Psychiatry are required.

The successful candidate will work in the Grey Nuns Psychiatric Outpatient therapy group program (POP). Key accountabilities of this position will include:

• Performing the role of group therapist
• Conducting family interviews
• Diagnosing patients
• Liaising with referral sources and community agencies
• Participating in observation, teaching, and feedback
• Familiarity with short term and solution focused therapy, object relations, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural and other related models such as attachment, acceptance based, etc.
• Completing a psychodynamic assessment on patients and documents also presents at team conference as appropriate
• Formulating treatment plan in collaboration with patients and team
• Monitoring and documenting progress weekly according to collaborative treatment plan
• Documenting discharge summary and forwards copies to referring agents or those involved in follow up care
• Demonstrating expertise in group psychotherapy treatment modalities - cognitive, experiential, insight
• Demonstrating advanced and applied understanding of psychotherapy group dynamics
• Recognizing defense mechanisms and transference and countertransference issues as they arise in groups and process therapeutically
• Is able to facilitate conflict resolution in groups
• Inviting and incorporating feedback from co-therapists
• Recognizing and working with the influence of family of origin and other significant events on the health status and functioning of patient
• Assessing in collaboration with patient discharge needs and assisting in matching resources to patients
• Recognizing the roles and relationships among the interdisciplinary team and how team dynamics influence patients
• Demonstrating the ability to process within the context of the team and co-therapy relationships
• Providing psychiatric medical outpatient assessment and treatment as necessary; communicating treatment plan with following physician on discharge
• Potentially certifying patients, in crisis or emergency situation, under the Mental Health Act
• Providing physician on call coverage as a part of the Psychiatry staff group
• Attending monthly physician meetings

There may also be an opportunity to do Consultation/Liaison with the Neurology program in the stroke and headache clinic.

Remuneration will be based on the Fee-for-Service (FFS) schedule.
