This position is for six (6) months from the date of hire?with a?possibility of?extension.

The Electrical & Automation Design Lead provides design and engineering services within a multidisciplinary team to support new product development, technology research, testing, prototype production and project management for automation of various construction related operations. In this engineering role, you will be responsible for investigating new business opportunities and supporting tests and troubleshooting on existing machines and IoT projects.

Duties

  • Lead the electrical engineering team in the conceptual and detailed design, including development of prototype industrial machinery
  • Lead the development of machine logic design, human-user interface and software implementation
  • Perform detailed electrical calculations for component selection (i.e., wires, fuses, transformers, power controllers, circuit breakers and cable routing) and design and/or selection of various electrical, controls and instrumentation components
  • Responsible for cross-disciplinary design reviews
  • Organize and maintain existing engineering records
  • Develop and coordinate validation, testing and commissioning procedures
  • Communicate with project managers, including industry partner personnel, to understand the needs and requirements of new projects
  • Responsible of project planning and scheduling: scope of work, client specifications, budget, documentation, reports
  • Responsible of communication with suppliers, manufacturers, sales, etc. for product quoting and purchasing
  • Coordinate, teach, support and supervise a small team of electrical and computer engineering co-op students

Qualifications

  • Bachelors (with 2+years work experience) or Master's in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA preferred
  • A strong background in electrical system design and implementation is required
  • Working knowledge of robotics, process control systems, motion control systems, servo systems and all aspects of power electronics
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems is preferred
  • Excellent planning and time management skills is required
  • Proficiency with Eplan to generate electrical wiring diagrams, control panel layouts and single line drawings for construction and installation of equipment is preferred
  • Industrial PLC programming experience required
  • Familiarity with the Canadian electrical standards and codes (CSA)
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical design (conduit and wire schemes, control panel layout, instrumentation design details, motor control schematic and automation components (PLC) & wiring, etc.)
  • Strong leadership, oral communication and writing skill is a must
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills to work effectively within the team environment
