Reporting to the Director, Alumni Engagement, the Coordinator will work directly with a portfolio of faculties to develop initiatives and events to support the faculties in achieving their alumni relations goals. In this role, the Coordinator will be responsible for building relationships with university partners and providing regular communications on alumni engagement activities and strategies. Additionally, the Coordinator will support special-interest alumni groups, working closely with volunteers to create programs that inspire alumni to stay connected to the University.

As part of this role, the Coordinator will work with alumni, donors and volunteers, cultivating relationships in an effort to encourage advocacy, enhanced volunteerism and giving to the University of Alberta.

Duties

  • Sustains a strong partnership between the Faculties and the Office of Alumni Relations with a strong emphasis on communication and identifying opportunities for collaboration
  • Contributes to the planning of assigned faculties¡¯ alumni relations strategy ensuring each becomes an actionable initiative that delivers measured outcomes for the faculty, including ownership and execution of applicable initiatives and events
  • Creates a link between faculty-based alumni relations programs and those managed by the Office of Alumni Relations on behalf of the University and the Alumni Association
  • Forms faculty-based and special interest chapter organizations when applicable, building volunteer advisory groups to help grow bonds among the alumni of each respective faculty or group
  • Provides leadership to assigned Special Interest Chapter programs
  • Recruits and manages volunteers that comprise executive boards within special interest alumni chapters, overseeing engagement activity, finances, scholarship fundraising, volunteer training and governance
  • Manages a budget for alumni relations in each faculty?which he/she is?accountable for according to the strategies developed
  • Contributes to the management of assistants within the Campus Chapters & Faculty Engagement portfolio

Qualifications

  • University degree required (e.g. business, social sciences, or humanities); preferably from the University of Alberta; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • 5 years experience working in?alumni relations, fundraising, public relations, communications, or special events/programming
  • Experience working at a large post-secondary institution or non-profit organization; experience within the University of Alberta faculty environment is an asset
  • Well developed communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Excel and Word, Google mail and documents)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and skillfully manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to adapt and work effectively within an academic culture
  • Experience providing strategic advice to administrators, volunteer boards and senior administration teams with a proven record of achieving consensus among stakeholders
  • Proven experience in strategic planning
  • High degree of self-motivation and initiative
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with varied audiences
  • Experience working with Advance is considered an asset
